Baseball moves into top 10
After improving to 7-1 overall with a powerful sweep of the Southern Miss Golden Eagles, the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns became the 10th best collegiate team in the U.S., according to the Baseball America poll.
This is the highest ranking for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette since 2000, when it was ranked ninth in the same poll, according to ragincajuns.com.
The Cajuns are the No. 1 team in the Sun Belt Conference, but league play doesn’t begin until March 14, when they travel north to face the UL Monroe Warhawks.
On Tuesday, UL Lafayette traveled to Baton Rouge to face the LSU Tigers, a match-up against an SEC opponent that prepares it for the upcoming series against the Alabama Crimson Tide, which is ranked 21st in the Baseball America poll. The first pitch of the three-game series is set for 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field.
