Crime rate increases in Lafayette
In the biggest hike since 2007, crime increased by 9 percent in 2013 in Lafayette, the city’s police department announced Monday.
Released statistics show the amount of rapes rose by 55 percent, jumping from 11 in 2012 to 17 last year. Robberies increased by 35 percent, auto thefts by 23 and thefts by 14. The overall 9 percent increase is considerably larger than the 2 percent hike from 2011 to 2012.
The report says, however, that homicides, assaults, burglaries and the overall number of arrests have all decreased in the past year.
