Cajuns sweep Warhawks
With a school-record seven home runs on Sunday, the No. 6 Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns beat the UL Monroe Warhawks, 21-2, in a mercy-rule seven innings to complete the sweep of the in-state rival.
The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is now 17-2 overall and 3-0 in Sun Belt Conference play, thanks to junior catcher Michael Strentz’s big bat that went 5-for-5 with three home runs, five RBI and four runs scored on Sunday. He had only two combined hits in the first two games of the series — which the Cajuns won 4-1 and 14-1.
Junior outfielder Caleb Adams, who went 2-for-4, contributed with a double and a home run in Sunday’s finale. He also scored twice, while senior Ryan Reynolds added another four hits.
The Cajuns, riding a seven-game winning streak, played the Nicholls State Colonels at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field, and they travel to Thibodaux to play them again Wednesday night. Starting Friday, UL Lafayette is at home for nine games, including two three-game series against fellow Sun Belt teams.
