University drops class requirement after drop date
Though I personally, as well as many other students that I’ve talked to (both in my class and out), thought it was idiotic and a waste of time.
Actually, I still think that.
The drop date for receiving a W was March 5. On March 6 at 1:26 p.m., I received an email from the head of the communications department stating:
“One other notable curriculum change is that the university has dropped its requirement of UNIV 200 for all students. If students have not taken this course yet, they can substitute another two or three-credit course in consultation with their advisor.”
Dr. Maher aside (because I do not believe this is his fault), WHY did I receive this information a day after the drop date?
Could that be any more University of Louisiana at Lafayette?
I was sitting in my boyfriend’s apartment when I read the email, and my response sounded something like “what the hell, why did UL Lafayette make me take this, who the heck do they think they are emailing me this literally a day after the drop date?!?!!?”
The next few minutes entailed of him ignoring my screaming. (I can’t blame him.)
If we’re being honest here, I started a transfer application to Loyola University in New Orleans (because I am tired of UL Lafayette’s crap.) Like I called and asked about receiving the scholarship I was offered my senior year of high school. Come to find out, the highest scholarship I could receive was much lower than their original offer for me. My transfer is dependent on financial resources, so I don’t even know if I’m leaving yet. Don’t count on it though. Private school is expensive.
Nevertheless, I’ve thought seriously about taking out a student loan. To be fair, this has been a long time coming because I really hate living here, and I personally hate this campus.
The revokement of the UNIV 200 requirement is just icing on the cake.
From what I understand, I could have taken any other two or three-credit course.
Do you know what that means? That means I could have taken something that I actually give a damn about. I could have used my scholarships on things I want to learn about or experience.
I would have taken another elective, A FUN ELECTIVE, in like .0002 seconds. Honestly, I would have loved to take almost anything else. I could have taken an extra art elective, or maybe another political science or history course.
What made UL Lafayette think that in its right mind, it had the right to tell us current UNIV students that we didn’t have to take the damn class the day after the drop date? I don’t even have an A in the class because it’s so time consuming, useless and tedious. I’m in college, dude. I’m paying for this education, and they made me take and pay for a class that I don’t need!? AND AM STRESSING OVER THAT I HAVE A B?!
I don’t mean to yell at you, but I’m beyond livid. I don’t understand how it’s OK that they purposefully waited to tell us until the day after the drop date.
Like stop bulls****ing me, UL Lafayette. I know you knew that you were dropping the requirement before you ever announced it.
This is so typical.
Why is nothing organized here? This isn’t even the first instance. But please, don’t get me started. My sodium intake seems to be enough as it is; I’m salty as hell, and I don’t care.
I mean, why, UL Lafayette? Why? Is it because you didn’t want our professors to have empty classes? Would they lose their paychecks? Why didn’t you think about that at the end of last semester, or at the beginning of this one?
It’s ridiculous that I was starting to like and trust this university. And maybe this is a problem campus-wide, nationwide. Maybe Loyola will be just as untrustworthy and annoying. But to tell you the truth, from what I’ve heard from friends who attend Loyola, it’s a much better school, and they’re much better about these types of things.
But what was I expecting from a public school?
