Cajuns open season with 3 wins against Sam Houston
The Cajuns baseball team began its season 3-0 this weekend by sweeping Sam Houston at M.L. Tigue Moore Field.
Although the last two games were fairly one-sided in the Cajuns favor, the first game went to the 10th inning — ending in a score of 2-1. The Cajuns won their next two games 6-2 and 13-3.
“Our hitters were a little tight, I think, opening night. We thought they would loosen up as the weekend went on and they really did,” head coach Tony Robichaux said. “Over the weekend it was just a great total effort as we were able to pitch, play defense and get timely hitting.”
In the Cajuns’ third game, outfielder Kyle Clement became the 22nd player in Cajuns history to record five hits in a game after recording a hit in each at bat. Clement also recorded two runs and two RBI’s in the game.
Second basemen Brenn Conrad also played well this weekend — recording five hits in eight at bats, three runs and four RBI’s.
The Cajuns’ next game is Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. against Louisiana Tech in Ruston. The team will also play three games this weekend in the 2016 Houston College Classic: one game each against Texas Christian University, Texas Tech and Rice.
