LETTER: Student responds to feminist column
I first want to start out by saying that your article titled “Religious survivors of sexual assault” was great. It was both informative and mostly factual. The reason that I use the word “mostly” is because in the sixth paragraph you say “the pro-life movement is just about control and forcing the woman to have the child with no plan for afterwards” for either the child or the mother. However, this is factually incorrect.
For a local example of a Pro-Life Group that has a “plan for afterwards” I would like to direct you to the DesOrmeaux Foundation. This Pro-Life organization has a Baby and Me Boutique which sells clothing and various other items to mothers at a greatly reduced cost. The St. Marguerite d’Youville Home is a place where mothers can live with their children, learn valuable life skills and begin a road to better supporting themselves. The Women’s Center of Lafayette offers free pregnancy tests and ultrasounds to mothers.
I truly believe that you care for women who are sexually assaulted; that came out very clearly in your article, which I thank you for writing. I ask that if you know of anyone who needs these services or others provided by the DesOrmeaux Foundation that you would direct them there since they are so close to campus.
