Softball team starts season 5-0
The Louisiana-Lafayette Cajuns softball team has started its season 5-0 after playing in the Sand Dollar Classic in Gulf Shores, Alabama last weekend.
During the tournament the Cajuns picked up its 1,500th program victory with an 8-0 win against Southeast Missouri. The game ended after five innings of play.
In the Cajun’s fifth game of the tournament, against Louisiana Tech, Lexie Elkins tied a school record with three home runs in a single game — the second time she accomplished this in her career. Elkins finished the weekend with five home runs and 14 RBIs.
The other three Cajuns victories came against Ball State, UAB and Samford University.
The team’s first home game at Lamson Park will be Friday at 2 p.m. against fifth-ranked Oregon in the 30th annual Louisiana Classics. The remaining two games of the three game series against Oregon this weekend will be Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. The Cajuns will end the weekend against Central Arkansas on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
