Jay Hedgeman issued summons for posession
Former Ragin’ Cajuns’ basketball forward Jevonlean “Jay” Hedgeman was issued a misdemeanor summons on Saturday by University of Louisiana at Lafayette Police Department after they found .8 grams of marijuana, a yellow grinder and rolling papers.
Officers responded to a physical altercation at the UL Lafayette Conference Center on Rex Street and found illicit drugs on the suspect after breaking up the altercation, according to the police report. Hedgeman was referred to the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities.
Following an indefinite suspension by the team in February, Hedgeman was granted his release, according to a March 29 statement by head coach Bob Marlin.
A spokesman for the team said he was unaware of the summons, but the team could not comment on the incident, citing Hedgeman’s release from the team last month.
The forward from Pearland, Texas averaged 4.8 points per game in 24 games with four starts for the Cajuns in 2016.
