Women’s tennis ends regular season 11-9, prepares for playoffs
Under the direction of new head coach Stephanie Vallejos, the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Women’s Tennis team sealed its first winning season since 2013 with a 4-0 triumph over LSU-Alexandria last Wednesday.
Louisiana-Lafayette claimed 11 victories this year, ending the season with a three-game winning streak after suffering a total of nine losses. The team had previously finished 14-12 in 2013, but in the two seasons following won only 11 matches combined.
During her final home match on Wednesday, senior Melissa Burckhartt gained a straight-set victory in singles before teaming with sophomore Kelly Drew in doubles for 6-0. Junior Alexandra Way also collected a straight-set win in singles.
Louisiana-Lafayette will compete this weekend, April 21-24, in New Orleans at the 2016 Sun Belt Conference Tennis Championships.
